Approachable art. Where else? The county fairgrounds / by Laura Reagan

Approachable art.  If you've chatted with me about my business philosophy, you know this is one of my priority topics.  Art should be something we have an unedited conversation about and are not hesitant to ask a silly question.  Where we dig deep and get to know the artist's unique personality and technique.

Usually I find myself engaged in these conversations at studios, galleries, museums, or clients' spaces.  But this weekend I stepped out of my zone and into fairground territory.  With my 2 young boys in tow, it was truly a new way to look at art.

The set up for Vintage Market Days was literally in the stable areas of the Douglas County Fairgrounds.  With the old farmhouse vibe of the collections, it was actually a perfect setting.  The staging was edited and intentional, making it easy to meander your way around.  While the majority of the items were objects for display, there were surprisingly many takes on art, or finds to be transformed into a new work of art.

If you're one of those people who feel like summer is not summer without the farmers market, then add this to your list to complete the local summer vibe.  The casual open air environment invites you to chat firsthand with craftsman and collectors.  Mix that with live music and good energy - a lovely summer afternoon with art!

Why not pick up a kinetic garden sculpture on your way back to the car?  The overall vibe of the exhibit lends itself to spontaneity.  Why not get caught up in the beauty of the day and bring something home to remember it by.
